DON'T CALL ME

UPDATE!: According to Snopes.com, this is an internet myth and you do not have to register your cell phones. The information is correct if you want to register your landline and (if you want to but don't have to) cell phone. Thanks to faithful readers Bob at Bob Out and Mark from Tales of the Sissy.

According to an email my mom received, "..... all cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sales calls." I wasn't able to verify this information but I did find The National DO NOT CALL Registry. You can register your landlines AND cell phones either by calling 1-888-382-1222 or registering on their website (see below). I found using their website must faster and easier.

THE NATIONAL DO NOT CALL REGISTRY

The National Do Not Call Registry gives you a choice about whether to receive telemarketing calls at home. Most telemarketers should not call your number once it has been on the registry for 31 days. If they do, you can file a complaint at this Website. You can register your home or mobile phone for free.

Your registration will not expire. Telephone numbers placed on the National Do Not Call Registry will remain on it permanently due to the Do-Not-Call Improvement Act of 2007, which became law in February 2008. Read more about it at http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2008/04/dncfyi.shtm.

3. Check your email for a message from Register@donotcall.gov. Open the email and click on the link to complete your registration.
