Sam Trammell plays Sam Merlotte owner of Merlotte's Bar & Grill. Sam, the character, is a full blooded shape-shifter who can change into any animal he wants (he prefers collies), whenever he wantS. Part-blooded shifters can only change during the full moon. Sam is a good guy, a bit of an outsider, somewhat tortured, has secrets to protect and is always looking to help others but never getting it quite right.
True Blood begins it's 5th season this Sunday, June 9th on HBO. Season 4 was just released on Blu Ray and DVD last week and is loosely based on the Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris. Yes, they have the same main characters and the plots lines are basically the same but that's all.
Sam's character and story lines are much more fleshed out, THANK YOU ALLEN BALL, in the HBO series then in the books. After the first book, the tv show and the books are so different that you can enjoy both without ruining the other. I'll have a Kindle review on the Sookie Stackhouse novels later this week.
